We believe in a whole body assessment to find the root cause. Pelvic symptoms can come from issues anywhere from top to toe so we use our usual physio skills to assess and treat the whole body, establishing the cause of your symptoms as well as treating them directly.
Internal pelvic floor exams can be useful as it means we can assess your pelvic floor strength and ability to relax, and help give you feedback on how to exercise these muscles as well as do manual release if needed.
However, internal exams are NOT required and you will never be pressured to have an exam or any assessment or treatment you are not comfortable with. Check out our what to expect letter for more information on what an initial appointment might look like.

How Can We Help?
Gender affirming surgery
Physiotherapy plays an important role in the recovery process following gender-affirming surgery. Vanessa can help manage post-operative pain, reduce swelling, and improve mobility through targeted exercises and therapies.
Vanessa will work together with you to provide personalized care to support optimal healing, enhance physical function, and promote overall well-being. By addressing your specific needs and concerns, she can help you with a smoother recovery journey, and supporting you to fully embrace your affirmed gender with confidence and comfort.
Education and Empowerment
Education is a key component of care at Archstone. Vanessa will provide comprehensive information on maintaining pelvic health wherever you are on your gender-affirming journey.
This includes guidance on exercises, pain management strategies, proper binding techniques, and self-care practices.
Empowering you with knowledge ensures you can make informed decisions about your health and feel confident in managing your own well-being.
Pelvic Health
Our pelvic physiotherapist, Vanessa, can assist trans and gender-diverse individuals with pelvic floor health by addressing issues such as pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, and bowel dysfunction.
Vanessa understands the unique challenges and needs of this community, and her approach is grounded in respect, empathy, and comprehensive care. She can provide tailored exercises to strengthen and coordinate the pelvic floor muscles, helping to alleviate discomfort and improve bladder and bowel control. Vanessa will ensure that you feel supported and confident throughout your treatment and transition.
She is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where you can feel comfortable and confident in your journey toward health.
Scar tissue Management
Post-surgical scar tissue can cause pain and restrict movement. Scars from top surgery can restrict chest or shoulder mobility and scars following bottom surgery can cause pain with penetration or bowel or bladder concerns. A pelvichealth physiotherapist can help manage and improve the flexibility of scar tissue through manual therapy techniques, stretching, and exercises.
These interventions promote better healing, reduce pain, and enhance the overall function of the pelvic region, contributing to a smoother recovery process.
