Individual Labour Preparation Session
What happens in a labour preparation and comfort measures visit?
Our goal is to give you and your partner the tools you need to have a positive birth. We know that a positive birth is strongly influenced by factors such as:
Continuous physical and emotional support.
The ability to be actively involved in decision making.
Knowledge of coping strategies and access to a range of pain relief options.
Control over your environment and positions.
During this 90 minute visit (covered under your physiotherapy health insurance), we will cover:
Strategies to prepare for labour with pelvic floor relaxation techniques, stretches, and positions to promote an open pelvis. We will go over how to use a birthing ball to relax the core and pelvic floor muscles.
Comfort and pain management techniques for early labour at home as well as at the hospital. We will go over acupressure points, breathing techniques, positioning techniques, counter-pressure techniques, and more. We will discuss strategies to use if you have an epidural to change positions and increase comfort. You and your birth support partner will have the opportunity to practice the techniques, ask lots of questions, and leave feeling confident and well prepared!
Tips and techniques for effective pushing with or without an epidural including positioning, using a peanut ball, counter pressure, breathing techniques, pushing strategies, etc.
Tips for recovering if you have either a vaginal delivery or a C-section.
Schedule a visit for your third trimester of pregnancy for yourself and your birth support partner. You don’t have to be a first time mom to benefit from this visit. We see lots of women for their second or more pregnancy and they always say “I wish I knew this for my first!”
We can sometimes have a bit of a waiting list, so book this visit early to make sure you don’t miss out.
